7-9 pm: Getting the Most out of Thrive: Join the Thrive team for an informal, open session that will introduce our programs and opportunities, explain how to schedule one-on-one consults and sessions, and allow time for Q & A. First Mondays.
MONDAY, OCTOBER 11
7-9 pm: Thrive Tech Support: Mike Phillips, Thrive’s go-to I.T. guy and founder of Power-On Local Youth, will help get you started on using the Thrive lap tops, navigate the resource page on the Thrive web site, and learn the various on line applications available for helping you keep up with your Thrivin’. Overview, followed by Q & A and one-on-one assistance. Get your Thrive Tech on!
MONDAY, OCTOBER 18
7-9 pm: Getting Your GED: Come learn how Thrive can help you get your GED, from on-site tutoring and guidance, to workshops and test-prep training that will help you ace the exam. As well, learn about our partnership with the Literacy Project’s Self-Directed Online Learning for the GED & Beyond program, and how to best take advantage of all the area’s GED resources.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 21
7:30-9 pm: The College Application Process: Join independent college counselor Sarah Hoffman for this college application workshop. For students interested in an overview of the process of applying to two or four-year colleges, with a special emphasis on the common application.
MONDAY, OCTOBER 25
7-9 pm: Creating Possibility: Learn about the differences between a fixed and a growth mindset, and how you can use dedication and hard work within a growth mindset to create motivation and productivity, enhance relationships, and most of all, free yourself from the binding assumptions and thought patterns that lead you nowhere. This interactive workshop will be led by Sonja and Michael O’Donnell, English teacher and Chair of the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department at Deerfield Academy, respectively.

Second & Fourth Tuesdays, 10 am- 12 pm: Resume and Cover Letter Assistance: Make that first impression matter with an impressive resume and cover letter. Whether you are starting with a blank piece of paper or revising an old resume for a career change, Tiffany Hilton, self-employed artist, pottery teacher, and library director, will share her considerable experience, work with your specific situation and spend one-on-one time helping you create documents that highlight your best qualities and help you feel more confident starting the job application process. Please bring any copies of resumes or employment history with you if you have them. No registration necessary.

Thursdays, 12-2 pm: General Writing & Editing Help: A Thrive staffer or volunteer will be available to help you with your general writing and editing needs, whether writing a letter, polishing up an essay, completing an application, or editing a report.

Life as Improvisational Art*: Based on Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way and her creative cluster model, this series will create a small group, safe and supportive environment in which to unblock and explore your creative self. At-home exercises will include some writing, walking, and taking yourself on artist’s dates. We’ll meet weekly to share our frustrations and triumphs, and to make art for fun and further discovery. Led by Liz Gardner, Thrive Program Director. $50 donation recommended. Sliding scale, no one turned away.

Make-your-own Music & Art: Free form. Bring your instrument, a sketch pad, your curiosity and ideas. Come to play, to teach, to learn, to watch.
OCTOBER 29:
Henna Tattoo You!*: The incredibly talented Kelly Flaherty of Henna Elements will offer this experiential, fun workshop on the art & traditions of henna tattooing. Learn about this beautiful, mysterious art form that has its traditions in ancient times, when henna was used for ceremonial adornment and blessings. Then...get your tattoo on!
